Our plant’s crude benzene recovery unit currently has one benzene washing tower, and we would like to change this to two. Could experienced technicians advise on what aspects need to be taken into consideration?
Are you planning to add a series tower or a parallel tower? Direct series connection is relatively simple, while parallel operation requires consideration of the gas-liquid equilibrium; if the sizes of the two towers differ, things become even more complicated.
It can be directly changed to a serial configuration, but care must be taken regarding the order of the towers in series
Just connect them in series directly; it’s quite simple and easy to do
Before making any changes, detailed analysis and calculations are required, and design and modifications are carried out based on the results. 1. Why change? If the benzene washing efficiency of the original tower is low, it is necessary to first analyze the reasons for this low efficiency. Generally, there are the following reasons: 1) The specific surface area of the packing is insufficient, failing to meet the requirements for benzene washing. This situation can be resolved by replacing the high-efficiency packing and appropriately increasing its height ; 2) The oil washing distribution is poor, with a wall flow effect present. This situation can be improved by modifying the oil washing distribution device to enhance the distribution of the washing oil ; 3) The design capacity is insufficient to meet the processing capacity, which requires a new tower. 2. Is it in series or parallel between the new tower and the old tower? This needs to be determined based on your factory’s actual manufacturing processes
It is recommended to switch to series connection for easier operation.
