MADE is a mixture of dibasic acid esters, also known as DBE. Its main components are dimethyl succinate, dimethyl glutarate, and dimethyl adipate. It is a non-toxic, colorless and transparent liquid with a mild ester-like fragrance; it is an environmentally friendly, biodegradable solvent with a high boiling point (a universal solvent for coatings). It possesses the typical characteristics of ester functional groups, including the ability to be saponified and hydrolyzed. Feature 1: It volatilizes very slowly at room temperature, and its volatility increases as the temperature rises. 2. It has a wide boiling point and a long flow path, which can help regulate the evaporation rate of the entire solvent system. 3. It possesses good leveling properties, which can increase gloss, improve the covering power of pigments, enhance the flexibility and adhesion of the paint film, and reduce surface defects such as orange peel, pinholes, fish eyes, and craters. 4. It is miscible with most organic solvents, allowing for easy formulation adjustment. 5. It has good dissolving ability for polyester resins, polyurethane resins, acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, etc. 6. Good stability; it does not oxidize or decompose when stored naturally. 7. It has a high flash point and low vapor pressure, making it safe to use. The alternative solvent MADE can replace solvents such as isophorone, ethylene glycol ethyl ether acetate (CAC), ethylene glycol butyl ether (used to prevent whitening), propylene glycol ether esters, **, dipropyl ether, and cresol. Applications: MADE is widely used in coil coating, baking varnishes, iron printing coatings, automotive coatings, wood finishes, the ink industry, the resin industry, insulating varnishes, as well as in coatings for electrical equipment and metal furniture. In addition, it can be used as a cleaning agent, paint remover, binder for casting cores, flux in electronic manufacturing, and as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
I’ve worked with DBE; it has good dissolving properties and has been used in enamel coatings.
