Some welding rods require pre-heating before use and must be stored in special insulated containers. There are various welding methods: electric welding, gas welding, TIG welding, and so on. TIG welding is often used for welding different materials, and in some cases, welding must take place in a nitrogen-rich environment. During construction, I once encountered a copper component; since no specialized equipment was available (I heard that there is special equipment for welding copper), we had to weld it outside.
