What should be the appropriate temperature rise in the hydrogenation reactor? ? ? What is the temperature rise per bed layer? ? ?
Depending on the type of hydrogenation unit and the properties of the feedstock, the temperature rise in the reactor varies as well; for example, the temperature rise during hydrorefining is certainly different from that during hydrocracking. When designing a general plant, the design institute determines the height of the catalyst bed based on the heat release during the reaction, and ultimately provides a reference value. I have seen similar devices with total temperature rises of over 30, over 40, and even over 50, but generally efforts are made to keep the temperature rise per bed layer as consistent as possible. However, I read in a book that operating the reactor with a temperature rise of 25–35 degrees yields the best economic benefits.
The temperature rise in hydrogenation units is specified in the operating procedures; it depends mainly on the type of feedstock being processed. If gasoline is used in large quantities, the temperature rise should be kept around 40 degrees. If diesel is used, the temperature rise can be slightly higher, as long as it does not exceed 60 degrees. A very low temperature rise is not conducive to efficient hydrogenation
It mainly depends on the properties of the raw materials; the temperature rise in the refining reactor is generally between 30 and 40, and it is also related to the sulfur content and unsaturated hydrocarbons in the raw materials. The temperature rise in the cracking reactor is usually around 20. It depends on the type of product desired, and it’s important to try to keep the temperature rise consistent across all reaction beds.
The temperature rise in our diesel hydrodesulfurization catalyst bed is around 40 degrees, which is related to the properties of the feedstock and the catalyst; it cannot be generalized.
Based on experience, the reactor temperature rise is related to the properties of the feedstock, operating conditions, etc. It is generally kept between 25 and 35 degrees.

It depends on what kind of hydrogenation unit it is; there are different types such as hydrocracking, diesel hydrogenation, gasoline hydrogenation, lubricant hydrogenation, and so on. It’s necessary to follow the design requirements
Our 600,000 HC hydrofining reactor: (3 beds) with temperature increases of 26, 16, and 13 degrees Celsius respectively, for a total temperature increase of 58 degrees Celsius. Cracking reactor: (4 beds), at temperatures of 8, 8, 8, 8 degrees Celsius respectively, with a total temperature increase of 32 degrees Celsius. And each bed layer has a maximum temperature rise! The refining reactors have a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius (all 3 of them), while the cracking reactors have a temperature not exceeding 15 degrees Celsius (all 4 of them)!
