What is an appropriate square footage per person for a typical coal chemical plant control room? Here is my personal opinion: Should it be a DCS centralized control room or a simple outdoor crew rest area? In a DCS centralized control room, various factors related to space need to be taken into consideration; after all, there are operation consoles, large screens, engineer stations, and so on. When multiple units are placed together, it’s best to maintain a certain distance between the operation consoles, and attention should also be paid to sound insulation between different units. When considering the outdoor workroom, it should have a toolbox storage area, simple personal lockers, as well as a gas protection room; ideally, there should be 10–15 square meters per person.
It should be determined based on the size of your land area. For example, if your factory covers a large area, I suggest making the control room larger and brighter, which won’t cause any problems either. If the footprint is compact, it’s better to go with a smaller one. It also needs to be determined based on your staffing situation. Generally, 1.0~1.5 m2 per person should be about right
The size of the control room is not determined by the number of people; there must be space for common equipment such as a DCS operation platform
