Vacuum, media in which fibers are not allowed to be incorporated (aerolinear gasoline, kerosene), and ethylene oxide are all unsuitable for use with asbestos rubber sheets. What exactly should be understood by ethylene oxide, and why cannot it be used?
Asbestos rubber sheets have a carcinogenic tendency; it is recommended not to use them! !
Does ethylene oxide react chemically with asbestos or rubber? In the chemical and petroleum refining industries, to prevent chemical reactions between gaskets and the medium involved, such reactions not only damage the seals but can also cause serious contamination of the materials. Therefore, in the design of tower internals, it is advisable to avoid using sealing strips as much as possible, and instead allow direct contact between the flange surfaces for sealing purposes.
EO storage tanks belong to category III containers; the gaskets should be made of polytetrafluoroethylene, and the use of asbestos or rubber materials is prohibited.
When the medium is ethylene oxide, gaskets containing asbestos must not be used; when operating under vacuum, asbestos-rubber gaskets are not permitted for flange gaskets – rubber washers or other types of gaskets are generally used instead; in situations where even trace amounts of fibers in the medium are not allowed, such as with aviation gasoline or aviation kerosene.
