Dear experts, the cold water flow meters in our company are currently showing inaccurate readings, especially at the beginning of operation when no readings are displayed. Our company’s flow meters are wedge-type flow meters with a 3-out-of-2 interlock system. Could everyone please discuss the selection of flow meters as well as the interlock issues? Another issue is that the high-pressure and low-pressure flash angle valves in our company are severely worn (both the angle valves and the pipes). I wonder how the angle valves are configured in your respective companies – is there some kind of buffer device installed behind the valves or something? Thank you all.
For such occasions, a venturi flow meter is generally used. Choosing two out of three is completely correct; it ensures a certain level of redundancy while also guaranteeing the safe operation of the system. The corner valves and the associated pipelines are severely corroded; the key factor is the designed flow rate. If the valve reaches its critical point and the medium is in a phase-change state, the valve core is prone to damage.
Thank you. The problem with angle valves arises because during flashing, the liquid phase transforms into a gas-liquid mixture or even a gas-liquid-solid mixture; the process gas generated as a result of flashing causes volume expansion, which leads to severe erosion of the valves and pipes.
Adding a buffer baffle behind the angle valve can indeed be effective; our company’s angle valves have basically not had any problems so far, as they have been in use for 3 years. Also, the installation of angle valves requires careful attention; it’s advisable to take a look around more. As for the flow rate of the quench water, a Venturi meter should be used, or the current of the quench water pump can also be referred to.
