Just received an order: Diesel alkaline cleaning tank: design pressure 1. 53MPA, design temperature 60°C, medium: diesel, water, alkali ； The volume is 40 cubic meters. The user specified in the provided conditions that the container should be classified as a Class 2 pressure vessel and that heat treatment be carried out. I think that container is long enough for marking, and no heat treatment is required. Additionally, in chemical processing, what is the purpose of a diesel alkaline washing tank? I would appreciate your advice.
Logically, it must be classified. The temperature is a bit low; here it’s 40 as well, but in reality it’s around 60. Diesel alkali washing and water washing are two tanks; there are some differences inside them, with only a partition separating them. There are dehydration packs; no other special requirements.
According to the Provisions on Safety Supervision of Pressure Vessels: Diesel is a liquid with a boiling point of 180–370°C; it should not be classified when the design temperature is 60°C. Please advise. I saw the drawings from a design institute in Qingdao and classified them as well; I don’t know why
The main purpose of diesel alkaline washing is to remove naphthenic acids from diesel and reduce its acidity.

The pressure should be classified; it seems that the pressure used in alkaline cleaning isn’t that high, so it shouldn’t be classified as category two. The normal operating pressure is 7 kilograms; it belongs to category 1 pressure vessels.
According to the <Code for Pressure Vessels>, diesel washing tanks should be classified as Class II pressure vessels, for the following reasons: 1 Diesel is a flammable and explosive medium. 2 Design pressure 3 Intermediate tank. But I don’t think heat treatment is necessary; I suppose that person designing it might have thought that alkalis cause stress corrosion in the welds, and therefore stress relief was needed.
One jar is enough; why use two jars? Does it mean upstairs that we need an alkali washing tank and a container for storing alkali?
