The glass plate level gauge of our sulfur recovery waste heat boiler drum (3.5 MPa) has experienced multiple instances of the glass plate breaking, with some attributing this to the lack of flushing of the level gauge. If a level gauge is not flushed, it can cause the glass plate to crack, is that correct? It seems incomprehensible.
It is usually caused by alkaline corrosion. Check the quality of the boiler water and replace the glass plates regularly.
This level gauge is extremely critical; it is necessary to keep it in proper working condition.
Steam drum level gauges generally use quartz glass plates; if glass tubes are used, they are of course prone to breaking. We have been working on drum boilers for fifteen years, but we have never carried out drum boiler cleaning

It’s been 3 years for us. It has never exploded. There might be a problem with your design. If it’s not cleaned, the liquid level will at best be difficult to see. On the 5th floor, heat tracing is very important, especially in winter; without it, the level gauge may freeze and crack or stop working. Let me tell you again: gauges for acidic gas buffer tanks also need to be insulated; otherwise, they will crystallize even in summer, making it impossible to see the readings clearly. :handshake
The level gauge in the drum should not require heating; obviously, the gas phase within the level gauge is filled with steam, and steam has a temperature, so heating is not necessary. The steam inside the level gauge will condense; therefore, even the liquid phase consists of freshly condensed water, which still has a certain temperature. As such, a steam drum level gauge should not require heating – this is certainly the case in the Yangtze River basin. I think it was mentioned during the boiler training that the level gauge needs to be flushed; I’m just not sure if this is to prevent the gauge from bursting

Hehe, here are two suggestions for you: 1. You can use dual level gauges; actually, we use 4 level gauges. 2. No heat tracing is required; ours doesn’t have it.
