Safety regulations for the storage and use of ethanol: Anhydrous ethanol, commonly known as alcohol, is a colorless and transparent liquid that is flammable and volatile; it has an alcoholic odor as well as a pungent, irritating taste. Melting point: -114°C, boiling point: 78.3°C, flash point: 12.8°C. It can catch fire at high temperatures, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air; special care must be taken regarding safety during use and storage. As the company’s ethanol storage volume has reached the threshold for being considered a major hazard source, all departments must strengthen management during storage and use, and ensure that safety measures are properly implemented. 1. Ethanol should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated, and dry place, in dedicated storage tanks. Provide a canopy over the tank top or cool it down when the temperature is above 35°C. II. The ethanol storage area should be equipped with lightning rods of sufficient height as well as underground lightning protection systems, which must be inspected regularly. III. Anti-static measures should be implemented in ethanol storage tanks; copper wires should be added at the flange connections, and warehouse managers should carry out regular maintenance. IV. A flame arrestor and vent cap should be installed on the top of the ethanol storage tank. Seal all other interfaces to prevent moisture absorption from affecting the quality of ethanol. V. The ethanol transfer pump should be equipped with an explosion-proof motor, while explosion-proof buttons and explosion-proof lighting fixtures should be used. VI. A non-combustible fire dike should be installed around the ethanol storage tank to prevent accidental leaks from occurring. VII. The ethanol used by the company shall be transported by entities qualified to handle the transportation of hazardous chemicals. Transport vehicles, drivers, and escorts must possess the necessary qualifications for handling hazardous chemicals, and must hold relevant certification for working with such substances. VIII. A safety perimeter fence and prominent warning signs should be installed in the ethanol storage area. IX. Open flames and smoking are strictly prohibited in the tank storage area; unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter. Fire-fighting facilities (fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, fire sand, etc.) must be installed. 10. Upon arriving at the unloading location, the ethanol tank truck should first have its grounding wire connected to the exposed, oil-free parts of the vehicle in order to eliminate any residual static electricity on it. The grounding connection must be maintained throughout the unloading process, until all the cargo has been unloaded; only after the pump is stopped can the grounding wire be removed. 11. Notify the laboratory to take samples; only after the inspection shows satisfactory results and a discharge order is received can the feed pipe be connected and the feed pump started to transfer ethanol into the storage tank. The warehouse must always be staffed during the ethanol unloading process. 12. Before unloading ethanol, the liquid level in the storage tank should be checked first; during unloading, the changes in the liquid level must be monitored continuously to prevent ethanol from escaping the tank and causing accidents. Clean the area promptly after the ethanol transfer is completed. 13. During the use of ethanol, the warehouse must conduct daily records and verifications to ensure that there are no errors in shipments in and out, and that the records match the actual stock. 14. Before using ethanol in the workshop, check first that the pipes and valves are closed. Only after confirming that everything is in order can the ethanol transfer pump be started to feed ethanol into the metering tank. It is strictly prohibited to start the pump before opening the valve. It is strictly prohibited to operate the ethanol transfer pump for extended periods with the outlet valve of the ethanol transfer pump closed. 15. When using ethanol in the workshop, it is necessary to control the feeding rate; feeding too quickly can lead to a rapid increase in temperature, resulting in accidents such as material overflow. 16. The use of ethanol in the workshop must be registered, and the amount used each day should be reported promptly to the supply department and the warehouse, so as to maintain a planned inventory and ensure an adequate supply.
