Due to work requirements, I have viewed a nuclear scale on two occasions from a distance of 1 meter for no more than 5 minutes each time. Could this be harmful to my health? :)
I just searched on Baidu; below is what I found there. 1. A nuclear scale operates on the principle of a substance’s absorption of gamma rays; it is a high-tech product resulting from the integration of modern nuclear technology and computer technology. It consists of a source unit (gamma ray source and protective lead tank), an Type A bracket, an ionizing gamma ray detector, a pre-amplifier, a pre-amplifier power supply, a speed sensing element, and the main system of the nuclear scale. 2. Features: An ideal contactless continuous weighing and metering control device with high measurement accuracy and good long-term stability; it overcomes the measurement errors caused by mechanical variations such as belt deviation, wear, tension changes, and material impact in other weighing devices. No mechanical wear, maintenance-free. 3. Main unit: Temperature range of +5ºC to +40ºC; humidity level below 90%. The gamma source consists of a 137Cs gamma radiation source with an intensity of 25 mci, a half-life of 30.1 years, and an activity of 0.925 GBq (classified as Category 5 source), along with a shielded lead container made of steel with a lead thickness of 7 CM. The radiation source is located at the center of this container; when the rotating piston is in the working position, gamma rays are emitted through a collimating aperture of 42º×7º. The specially designed protective lead container has been thoroughly inspected by health and safety authorities and meets the safety standards specified in GB4792-84.
