During operation or during start-up and shutdown, if the furnace temperature rises rapidly, how should it be handled?
First, the owner should be aware that the main reason for the increase in the furnace temperature of the synthesis tower is an imbalance in the gas ratios. If the furnace temperature rises rapidly, it is necessary to determine the opening ratio between the syngas inlet valve and the quench valve, and then make the necessary adjustments!
First, it is necessary to correctly determine the cause of the temperature rise: 1. If the temperature rises significantly in a short period of time before dropping rapidly, it indicates a mild case of poisoning, and it should be handled according to the procedures for mild poisoning; 2. For increases in the temperature of the synthesis tower caused by other reasons such as an increase in the amount of gas supplied, a sudden decrease in the gas flow rate delivered by the circulation machine, or improvements in the gas composition, the first step to take is generally to increase the circulation volume. If it is not possible to increase the circulation volume, then the auxiliary line of the tower should be activated; in cases where cooling is available, cooling can also be used in combination to regulate the temperature.
It kept rising and couldn’t go down; it reached 600 degrees, so I had to stop the process. I didn’t dare increase the circulation rate either; I just waited for the temperature in the tower to drop naturally. Later, when it was stopped for replacement, the catalyst inside had all clumped together.
First, the cause needs to be identified. The reasons for a sudden rise in temperature are: 1. An increase in the amount of air supplied; 2. The gas composition suddenly improves ; 3. The valve of the circulation machine is damaged, allowing gas to take a shortcut and resulting in a decrease in the amount of circulating gas ; 4. The opening degree of the cold bypass is too small (it may be due to a fault with the on-site pneumatic valve, the valve being fully closed, or the valve in the DCS system not moving; I have encountered this phenomenon before). Take measures: 1. Increase the circulation rate as long as the pressure difference permits ; 2. Activate the cold bypass line for cooling. If the above two methods cannot solve the problem, the following approaches can be used: 3. Reduce the amount of supplementary gas; 4. Increase the content of inert gases; 5. Increase the ammonia content fed into the tower. 6. Increase the ammonia cooling temperature; this will reduce production, so it should be avoided unless absolutely necessary – it’s better to use methods 1 and 2 instead
