I think there are three categories:: 1. Add an external indicator. An example is sodium diphenylamine sulfonate indicator added to the determination of iron. 2. Self-indicator. For example, when titrating oxalic acid or oxalate with potassium permanganate, no external indicator is needed but it can indicate the arrival of the end point by itself. 3. Special indicator. For example, the starch indicator used in iodometric determination of copper.
Redox indicators include the following: 1. Self-indicator KMnO4. The red solution can be used as an indicator by itself. 2. The exclusive indicator iodine reacts with starch to generate a blue compound. Starch is an exclusive indicator for electrometry. 3. Redox indicator itself is a type of organic matter with redox properties. The oxidation state and reduction state of this type of indicator have different colors.
