Tank A has a diameter of ΦA = 15 meters and a safe height of 14 meters; the height of oil in this tank is hA = 10 meters. Tank B has a diameter of ΦB = 20 meters and a safe height of 18 meters, with the oil level in it at hB = 5 meters. Both tanks are at the same horizontal level, and the type of oil in both tanks is the same. What will be the oil levels in each tank after the automatic transfer of oil from Tank A to Tank B stops?
H = ( (A’s diameter squared / 4 * 3.14 * hA) + (B’s diameter squared / 4 * 3.14 * hB) ) / ( (A’s diameter squared / 4 * 3.14) + (B’s diameter squared / 4 * 3.14) ) = (15² / 4 * 3.14 * 10 + 20² / 4 * 3.14 * 5) / (15² / 4 * 3.14 + 20² / 4 * 3.14) . If both storage tanks are at atmospheric pressure and the pressure at the top of each tank is the same, then the two tanks act as a communicating vessel when filled with material, and eventually the levels of the two liquids end up on the same horizontal line. The calculation method was explained on the second floor, so it won’t be repeated here.
