Coal-to-oil is best done on a global scale!
No benefits have been seen yet; the company that is performing relatively well at present is Shenhua. Followed by Lu’an and Yitai. This post was last edited by Ma Hai on 2009-3-7 08:48
Your question is not open to discussion; apart from South Africa, it seems there is no other country in the world that does coal-to-oil conversion as well
As far as I know, coal-to-oil projects were successfully developed in Germany in the early stages, with a high level of industrialization. However, the emergence of the petrochemical industry was temporary; due to resource constraints, South Africa has never ceased its research and development in coal-to-oil conversion, and its level of industrialization is now among the best. Represented by South Africa’s Sasol Company, construction of the fourth production line has begun.
In China, there is Shenhua with a capacity of 300 wt/a, Shanxi Lu’an with 16 wt/a, and Inner Mongolia Yitai with 16 wt/a
As far as I know, SASOL was also forced to develop this technology, due to international sanctions under the apartheid regime; it was only as the facilities began operating, oil prices rose, and technical expertise accumulated that low-cost indirect coal liquefaction technology was gradually developed. Coal liquefaction in Germany was also developed at all costs against the backdrop of war. The situation is different now; it seems that we are the only ones in the world with such strong enthusiasm for coal liquefaction. In my opinion, we should approach coal liquefaction from a **strategic perspective** – it is more appropriate to use coal liquefaction as a technical reserve. Therefore, a cautious yet optimistic attitude, along with steady progress, is the right approach for us.
