Some of my insights from doing research: 1. Spend half the time conducting experiments and half the time reading literature. One must never spend all one’s time at the laboratory bench. Read literature, books, observe how others operate, listen to their experiences, study their approaches, and think while doing. Learn to make comparisons; don’t follow blindly. Otherwise, one will be troubled by small problems for a long time. 2. The better the preparation, the smoother the experiment will be. The ancients said that sharpening a knife doesn’t delay the task of chopping wood. Having adequate prior knowledge, a sufficient amount of literature, proper preparation of materials and methods can help avoid chaos, and thorough preliminary experiments give you confidence. By taking things step by step, there’s no need to “start over from scratch”. What is most intolerable is slacking off in the initial steps, which leads to various insurmountable obstacles later on. 3. The records should be accurate and detailed. People always have a bit of vanity. It is common for many people to only record the successful steps or good results in the experiment notes. Little do you know, many valuable experiences and unexpected discoveries pass by you just like that. An objective, truthful, and detailed record is a valuable asset. 4. Don’t save money for the boss. Efficiency first. Spending the whole day trying to save money only results in wasting time and suffering losses when using unreliable things; in the end, no money is actually saved. 5. Seize the psychological advantage. Those who have conducted experiments have all experienced failure and setbacks. Some failures should occur during the preliminary experiments, and you can accept them calmly at that time. If no preliminary experiments are conducted, you will experience significant frustration when encountering such issues in the actual experiments. If you make a mistake due to rushing, you will feel frustrated. If you can firmly put aside your current restlessness, you can avoid a tragedy from occurring. If you don’t know what you need to do today before entering the laboratory in the morning, it’s best to think it through first. The biggest mistake is repeating the same error. Most people are in favor, but they disagree with the idea of not saving money for the boss. The purpose of research and development is mainly to reduce costs, improve quality, minimize the impact of subjective factors on outcomes, reduce risks, and decrease environmental pollution. I’m not sure if that’s the case
Is the poster a student? First: Determine the right direction for research and development, select feasible projects based on one’s current capabilities, and turn them into economic benefits. Avoid setting overly ambitious goals! Second: pay attention to the details, as there are many things that we cannot predict. For example, workers were asked to assemble an iron frame for fixing the equipment, with no one supervising them; as a result, it was assembled incorrectly, and the entire setup became skewed as well. Third: Do not make promises lightly, even if you are 99% sure. When dealing with foreign trade and samples are needed urgently, they will press you to tell them when they can be ready; it seems like two weeks would be enough, but it actually took two months to complete them. This also involves coordination among different departments, such as the laboratory and the procurement department; their efficiency directly affects us as well. Fourth: Don’t be afraid of working overtime; work is the most important thing. There’s nothing to do at home anyway, so finish the work first before going home, even if there’s no overtime pay. :'( :time: Fifth: Safety comes first. Before formulating an experimental plan, think carefully about potential safety risks and seek advice from experienced experts; never make changes to the experimental plan casually. I disagree with the idea that one should not try to save money for the boss. Instead, one should strive to save money for the boss within acceptable limits. This is not just a matter of saving money; it also reflects the quality of a researcher. As researchers, we should make use of resources efficiently
Anyway, Chinese technology is behind that of others, so by looking at what others have, you can seem more advanced; P
Study hard!* Worth learning from!
If there is a leader in a particular field, it will make things much easier; it’s difficult to achieve great things with just one person’s efforts
It’s valuable experience, but it’s easier said than done! In any case, those who are determined will succeed! :lol
I also have a background in research, and what the original poster said is more or less correct. But if one stays in the laboratory all the time, it will hinder the development of their thinking; it’s better to go out and learn about the market, as this is very helpful for project development.
I believe that research should be combined with production and aligned with market demands; it cannot be carried out in isolation. One should not just conduct experiments; I agree that it’s important to read more books and consult more information. Often, problems are solved by applying knowledge from other products, so communication is essential. Sometimes, when one gets stuck in a dead end, it’s difficult to find a way out; coming to HaiChuan to exchange ideas is now a very important method for me.
Research. Back in university, my supervisors always encouraged us to hold group meetings to discuss our respective ideas. Sometimes, while speaking on stage, all the things I hadn’t understood before would become clear to me. Communication brings many benefits to research work
I think time is very important! Time is money! The shorter the development time, the better (to ensure product performance)!
Add 2 points: 1. Seek advice from true experts, who are first and foremost workers with extensive experience, and then professors and experts with substantial research experience. In other words, it’s the communication skills of researchers. 2. A comprehensive understanding of one’s own research area, including the domestic and international landscape as well as the progress of the research team. In other words, after studying a project for a period of time, it is necessary to understand its advantages and disadvantages, bottlenecks, overall quality, related fields, and the most suitable starting point for working on it; one must have the competence to act as the project leader or technical manager. Both of these seem difficult; if one manages to accomplish them and then improves their skills in managing people, they will be qualified to take on the role of a technical manager in a company.
