Both coal tar pitch and petroleum tar pitch can be used； U.S. A240 petroleum asphalt can be drawn into filaments after further processing. Coal tar drawing in our country is still at the laboratory stage. The modulation process is very complex; taking coal tar pitch as an example, it is produced through processes such as QI removal, softening point adjustment, and hydrogenation.
Asphalt spinning is used to produce pitch carbon fibers, which can be of either petroleum-based or coal tar-based types. Japanese technology for the coal tar-based variety is quite advanced, while China possesses such technology but it is not yet optimal and is still in the pilot stage. To produce spinning asphalt, it is possible to remove quinoline from the asphalt before further processing, or to polymerize the heavy components present in tar.
I would like to ask: Is there any technology in China for polymerizing the heavy components in coal tar pitch and tar to produce spinning pitch? Are there any pilot-scale tests available?
