The sulfur content in the coal powder is 1.6%; does this sulfur content have an impact on the quality of the magnesium metal produced in rotary kilns? Thank you!
It should have little impact. Most is converted into gas and released, and even the remaining amount is very little sulfide.
The materials inside the kiln are MgO and CaO, which should be effective at absorbing SO2. For example, in cement kilns, the absorption efficiency can reach 95–100%.
It shouldn’t have any impact. Coal is now being phased out as a fuel, with more people switching to gas.
Absorption should occur at low temperatures, while calcination takes place during the gas release stage.
There definitely is: calcium sulfide is produced during calcination, and calcium sulfide consumes a reducing agent during the reduction process
