We used compound fertilizer packaging bags to wrap the wood chips; they were placed in the yard, exposed to wind, rain, and sunlight, and in less than a month the bags had completely disintegrated. Alas, I wonder what material these bags are made of – is it simply because the quality of the material used for these bags is poor? There must be another reason; please advise me. Thank you!
Generally, PP materials are divided into indoor and outdoor types during the production process, with higher-quality versions requiring UV resistance as well. In terms of the materials used for woven bags, Yanshan Petrochemical’s 2401 is suitable for indoor use, while Yangzi’s F401 and Qilu’s T30S are suitable for outdoor use. Perhaps the material used for manufacturing the woven bags you are using is of indoor grade. Another point is that PP does not resist aging well.
In addition to PP as mentioned above, packaging bags are also made of polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. All these materials share the common drawback of plastics: they tend to age easily, especially when exposed to wind, rain, and sunlight. Furthermore, the packaging bag filled with wood chips will develop protrusions due to the support provided by the wood chips, which causes localized stress on the material; as a result, it ages rapidly when exposed to repeated fluctuations in temperature between high and low levels.

As far as I know, many woven bags in the country are made from recycled PE due to cost considerations. If powdering occurs, it is mainly due to poor anti-aging effects. The anti-aging agents and UV inhibitors used are unstable, either due to low concentrations or poor efficacy.

1. Low-cost woven bags that may have been made from recycled polypropylene woven bags (production waste, not market-recycled material). 2. It is possible that polypropylene raw materials with an insufficient amount of antioxidants or substandard raw materials were used. 3. Too many inorganic fillers may have been added. 4. It is definitely a “product” manufactured by a low-cost small factory.
Such problems are quite common; using them indoors can extend their useful life to some extent, but the key issue remains the material used. The packaging bags used for compound fertilizers are generally neither environmentally friendly nor resistant to aging.
