In our plant, ordinary 20-grade steel is used; can such a material resist corrosion caused by hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide? A small crack has appeared on the flange beneath the quick-cooling hydrogen manual valve at our hybrid hydrogen valve assembly, and oil is seeping out. I would like to ask the experts why this oil leakage is occurring; after all, hydrogen should be flowing there. Neither a hydrogen detector nor a hydrogen sulfide detector can detect any issue.
Hydrogen sulfide causes stress corrosion; 20# steel has decent resistance to stress corrosion, and its price is not high. By increasing the pitting allowance, it can be used effectively; Oil is leaking from the lower flange; you can check at the outlet of the new hydrogen generator and the hydrogen circulation pump – can you see any oil there?
