About wireless transmitters

Does anyone know how wireless pressure transmitters work? Also, by how much are they more expensive than regular pressure transmitters, and what hardware is needed to connect them to a DCS system?
In essence, it’s just a device with a wireless signal transmitter; it’s somewhat similar to a mobile phone, and a card is also required. There’s also a signal receiver, but the price is much higher.
Data can be transmitted via mobile GPRS, but the sampling period is long, making it unsuitable for real-time monitoring in process control. Suitable for meter reading.
