A super-large coal field with reserves of 3 billion tons discovered in Caoxian County, Heze, Shandong http://www.sina.com.cn March 8, 2009, 02:15 Shun Network-Jinan Times According to a report in the Times on March 7 (reporter: Susan; correspondent: Wang Jingjing), following the Juye coal field, the geological exploration teams in our province have discovered another super-large, high-quality coal field in Caoxian County, Heze. The coal here is coking coal, which is rare both domestically and internationally. Preliminary estimates indicate that the resource volume of this coal field exceeds 3 billion tons, with a potential economic value of over 1.5 trillion yuan. It is reported that the Caoxian coalfield was discovered through joint exploration by the Shandong Provincial Institute of Geological Sciences and Research and the Heze Municipal Land and Resources Bureau. The coalfield is primarily located in the Qinggangji area in the northern part of Caoxian County, extending northward to Dingtao and Mudan districts. Preliminary exploration results show that the coal seams in the Caoxian coalfield are over 8 meters thick, and the coal quality is coking coal that is rare both domestically and internationally. Preliminary estimates indicate that the coal reserves exceed 3 billion tons, with a potential economic value of over 1.5 trillion yuan. It is reported that explorers have initially identified loose layers revealing coal deposits at a depth of about 950 meters underground, and are currently carrying out further coal exploration work as well as research on the engineering geological conditions for mining.
Coal resources are being continuously discovered and mined on a large scale. Now that better coal resources have been discovered, people’s first thought is about their economic value and such. Since truly excellent resources have not yet been found, this forces everyone to look for alternative energy sources. Now it’s discovery, extraction, depletion – then another discovery, more extraction === and eventually nothing left.
In the early years, Shandong’s coal resources were depleted, turning it into a region that relied on imported coal; meanwhile, the capacity for coal chemical production continued to expand rapidly. How many years will it take for the development of this coal field to change this situation? At present, there are a relatively large number of coal chemical enterprises in Shandong. The output of coal chemical products (mainly fertilizers) also seems to be among the highest in the country, with several major enterprises competing to become the leaders in this field
It’s better not to discover it; let’s save some resources for future generations
It’s good to have resources, but I hope we won’t engage in large-scale exploitation of them as before, which leads to severe environmental damage – it’s really not worth it!
It’s good to discover it – **wealth**. Whether to mine or store remains to be determined based on **policy**. It is necessary to make rational use of it and build it properly.
