Various applications of wetting and dispersing agents in coatings. The wetting and dispersing of pigments in the coating matrix is an important process in coating manufacturing, and wetting and dispersing agents have a significant impact on the quality of the coatings. Moisture dispersants can shorten the grinding and dispersion time, reduce energy consumption, and maintain the stability of the coating dispersion system; they play a decisive role in various properties of the coating. Pigment dispersion involves grinding and breaking down the agglomerates and aggregates of secondary particle clusters into smaller particles or to their original size, thereby creating a stable dispersed suspension. Wetting of pigment particles: It is a process that alters the surface properties of pigments; it involves removing the water and air adsorbed on the pigment surface, changing its polarity, reducing the interfacial tension between the liquid and the solid phase, and increasing the affinity between the pigment and the paint. A wetting agent is an additive that plays a role at this stage. Wetting agents are surfactants that can improve the wetting and dispersion efficiency of pigments. It has a very strong affinity for the surface of pigments. It can adsorb directionally on the surface of pigments, replacing the substances adsorbed on that surface, such as water and air. It enhances the affinity between the paint and pigments, reducing the time required for the pigments to be ground and dispersed in the paint. Since the wetting process of pigments is essentially a kind of displacement process on the pigment surface, the wetting agent should have a very strong affinity for the pigments. The dispersion process of pigments involves the formation of fine pigment particles through mechanical grinding, which then create a uniform suspension with the paint. Without any external forces, this suspension can maintain a stable state of dispersion; this stage is often referred to as the dispersion stage or stabilization stage. Dispersants are the additives that play a role during this stage
