What are the prospects for hexene-1 in China?
I’m not sure if the answer is still helpful to you now; 1) For hexene-1, mature technologies already exist in China, primarily at the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology and the Daqing Research Institute. It is produced through the polymerization of ethylene, and the relevant technologies are highly developed; there are also industrial plants where these technologies have been successfully applied. The technology developed by the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology has even been exported abroad ; It is primarily used as a comonomer for polyethylene. 2) China is a major producer of polyethylene, with state-owned enterprises and joint ventures playing a key role. However, at present, polyethylene products in China are highly homogeneous; the development of high-end resins will inevitably become the trend going forward, and the use of α-olefins as comonomers will be one approach to synthesizing such high-end resins. An increase in demand for 1-butene, 1-hexene, and 1-octene is inevitable. 3) However, in foreign countries such as the United States and the Middle East, due to their abundant oil and ethane resources, the price of ethylene is very low. The cost of producing α-olefins such as hexene-1 is also very low, and transportation is convenient; thus, the CIF price is comparable to that of ethylene in China. So there aren’t many advantages to building domestically (especially by private enterprises). 4) The facilities currently built in the country are all state-owned enterprises belonging to Sinopec and CNPC, and they operate in a self-sufficient manner.
