Of course, there is a big difference. When calibrating ordinary pressure gauges, a pressure calibration instrument is generally used, along with the five-point calibration method; both the forward and reverse strokes are calibrated to determine values such as the basic error and deviations in the forward and reverse strokes. Based on the accuracy of the pressure reading and the appearance of the gauge, it is then determined whether it meets the required standards. When calibrating intelligent transmitters, it is first necessary to use an intelligent handheld device to check the instrument parameters, such as range, zero point, offset, and whether square root functionality is available. For example, the ROSEMOUNT 3051 uses a HART 375 handheld device, while Yokogawa EJA models use a BT200 handheld device for setting up the parameters. Perform five-point verification again. Since intelligent transmitters generally have no hysteresis, it is usually not necessary to calibrate them for both forward and reverse travel.
Devices such as hand controllers cannot be used to calibrate transmitters; calibration is not simply a matter of changing the range or performing range adjustments – pressure tests and sensor tuning are also required. The calibration process for both is the same. Smart transmitters have self-diagnosis functions, so most types of faults can be detected on their own; therefore, in most cases, no calibration is required for them to remain in good working condition.
Self-diagnosis function: How is it possible to determine information such as the type and nature of the fault? Are all the instruments provided? In its instructions or in the DD file?
