For a 120kt/a sulfur-based sulfuric acid production project that uses imported sulfur, what minimum filter area is required for liquid sulfur?
The question isn’t clear enough. If imported sulfur is used, there’s also the issue of its origin! Based on a production capacity of 120,000 tons, as a rough estimate: at 120kt/a and with operations running for 330 days per year, about 5 tons of sulfur are required per hour. Therefore, two sulfur filters are needed; each filter has a capacity of 5 tons per hour, and an area of 25 square meters is sufficient for such a filter. Of course, it can’t hurt to make it a bit larger.
Our 250,000 tons require 50 square meters – that’s more than enough!
Build a larger liquid sulfur storage tank; 20 square meters will be sufficient.
