If I only have one week, can you tell me how to use the one week on site? I am engaged in dynamic simulation of chemical process, but have little practical experience.
1. Look at what types of equipment there are in chemical plants: operating, stationary, normal pressure, high pressure. Various sizes and shapes. 2. Various pipe fittings: insulated, colored, large and small cones, bent and straight, cold and hot. Various valves, elbows, fixing methods, pipeline directions, control point measurement points, etc. 3. The working principle, installation form, lubrication form of operating equipment. 4. Various steel structures, platforms, ladders and hangers, etc. In short, when you see everything, ask yourself questions and think about its purpose. You will have an impression when you encounter it in the future design.
1. Be familiar with the process and observe the direction and changes of materials. 2. Be familiar with the equipment and observe the main equipment. 3. Be familiar with the pipelines and observe the layout, direction, insulation, pipe racks, etc. of the pipelines. Connect the on-site observations with the theory of drawings. You can observe many new and interesting issues on-site, and you can also deepen your understanding of the drawings and improve the level of understanding for future designs.
I feel like you should look at the various valve forms and go to the control room to have a look; If possible, ask the operator to help you explain the process in general. Then you can compare various equipment and have a sensory understanding.

But I think it is very important to be familiar with the background and information of the factory. However, chemical plants should pay attention to protecting themselves. Sometimes it is very dangerous.
In our workshop, there are some college students from the design institute who have temporarily come down to work. They just sit there all day and don’t want to pay attention to anyone. If they really want to learn, no one will pay attention to them.* First of all, you have to put down your attitude and communicate with the workers and masters humbly. The scope of communication is not too narrow. After you are familiar with it, the masters are also willing to teach you. The main thing is to familiarize yourself with the general process of the device and have an understanding of the equipment, such as various valves, pumps, compressors, tanks, heat exchangers, etc. There is a lot to learn about the on-site placement of instrument systems.
If you go to the site more often, you will find that although some designs are reasonable, the layout of the site is very poor, especially the pipelines. This requires more visits to notice in the design.
1. Process Once you have the process, you can write the "Material Balance Sheet". At any time, the material balance is the production benchmark. 2. Equipment layout The equipment layout must be reasonable and should not be too compact or too far apart. Only after the equipment is positioned can the design of the process pipeline be carried out. 3. For process pipeline layout designers, the most important thing is that the design of the process pipeline must be reasonable and the valves must be easy to operate. According to the on-site conditions, look at those that deviate from the design. In the future, you will know how the pipeline goes, and there is no need to update the design drawing. 4. There are safety standards for how to design the factory building and whether to add explosion-proof walls. 5. The theoretical design of actual operation is theoretical value after all, and sometimes it is very different from actual operation. Therefore, communicate more with workers and ask how things are handled. In this way, even though you don’t do the operation, you have practical experience and can immediately see whether the calculation is correct during theoretical calculations!
Personally, I think it is better to go to the site to compare what you have learned with the actual situation, find out what you do not understand or understand, and ask the on-site workers to understand and humbly ask for advice.
