Some products can be detected by liquid-phase methods; why is an external standard still needed?
Are you saying that it’s not necessary to use an external standard for the liquid phase? Each analysis method is primarily aimed at determining the properties of the components. It would be even better if the external standard could perfectly coincide with the internal standard or the standard curve.

There are many in the book. Internal and external standards are methods for quantification, while liquid and gas phases are methods for separation.
When using the area method or normalization method, it is impossible to quantitatively analyze substances with complex compositions without employing standards (internal or external standards); it can be said that the results are often inaccurate.
