Let’s start with the amount of coal. If we keep the oxygen-to-coal ratio at a constant value, some manufacturers choose to calculate the amount of slurry based on the slurry volume indicated by the rotation speed, in conjunction with the oxygen level. However, although the coal slurry volume indicated by the speed is stable, it remains a constant value; it changes only in the event of problems with the frequency converter or the motor. However, when there is a problem with the slurry pump itself, it does not change. So it is very dangerous to automate the oxygen-coal ratio at this time. Currently, some methods calculate the amount of slurry by taking the value indicated by the speed gauge together with the average of the readings from the two electromagnetic flowmeters; this might be a bit better, but there is still a need to continuously adjust the oxygen-to-coal ratio, which in turn causes changes in the operating conditions. We have never invested in this instrument at any point in time.
One more thing: even after making the investment, there are still errors in the instrument readings and incorrect operation of the interlocks.
