My unit has a pressure vessel with an operating pressure of 250bar, an operating temperature of 230°C, an inner diameter of 1350mm, and a height of about 5.6m. It has a hot oil jacket on the outside, and the inner wall is lined with a material similar to Teflon. Is there a detection technology that can measure the wall thickness of the container without damaging the jacket and lining (of course, when the container is parked, the head is opened, and people can enter)?
Oh, if only it were that simple! Common thickness gauges are X-ray thickness gauges and ultrasonic thickness gauges. How does the X-ray thickness gauge work?: The thickness is measured based on the intensity attenuation of X-rays penetrating the object being measured, that is, the amount of X-rays absorbed by the steel plate being measured is measured. Working principle of ultrasonic thickness gauge: Thickness measurement is based on the principle of ultrasonic pulse reflection. When the ultrasonic pulse emitted by the probe reaches the material interface through the object to be measured, the pulse is reflected back to the probe, and the thickness of the material being measured is determined by accurately measuring the time for the ultrasonic wave to propagate in the material. So it is conceivable that whether it is emitted from the inside out or from the outside in, it must pass through the lining or jacket (ultrasound), or both the lining and jacket must pass through (radiation), which is not an easy solution!
Now there seems to be an ultrasonic thickness gauge that can automatically remove the coating thickness. But I just heard about it.
