In response to market demand, our company plans to develop direct-fired boilers that use straw-based briquettes as fuel, specifically for use in areas located at the edge of urban and rural areas. During the preliminary research phase, it was found that there are not many manufacturers producing such boilers, and most of them are still in the early stages of development. We plan to carry out renovations on coal-fired boilers, but there are many challenges that need to be addressed. We list them below for the guidance of our experts: 1. Since the capacity of the boilers we are working with is small, ranging from 0.7 to 7 MW, we do not intend to use room combustion or fluidized bed systems; instead, we will use layer combustion. So, what kind of combustion equipment would be suitable in this case? We prefer chain boilers; then, compared to coal-fired boilers, does the grate need to be modified? 2. Biomass combustion has obvious disadvantages, such as easy coking and high fly ash content. In light of these issues, what modifications should be made to the furnace? 3. When performing thermal calculations, what should be the range of flue gas temperature at the furnace outlet? Is it necessary to install rear heating surfaces as well? Biomass fuels contain very little sulfur, so can the flue gas temperature be set lower? We are still in the preliminary design stage, and we hope that experts who have experience in designing boilers of this type can offer us their guidance.
