If the main steam parameters of the compressor do not meet the specified requirements, it has adverse effects during startup; these include excessive or insufficient steam temperature, as well as excessive or insufficient pressure
A turbine is a device that converts energy released by reducing the pressure and temperature of steam into mechanical energy through work. 1 When the inlet rated pressure is low and the temperature is too low, the superheat of the steam is insufficient; as the steam does work in the subsequent stages of the impellers, liquid droplets may form. These droplets can impact the blades in those later stages, causing damage to them over time. 2 When the inlet rated pressure and temperature are too high, it reduces the yield limit of the steel, creating potential safety hazards. It poses a threat to the safe operation of the steam turbine ; 3 When the rated steam temperature and pressure are too low, the steam flow rate to the turbine increases when the same amount of work is to be produced. In severe cases, this flow rate exceeds the maximum designed value, resulting in a significant increase in the axial force on the turbine; in extreme situations, this can lead to the destruction of the turbine’s thrust bearings and damage to the turbine itself ; 4 When the rated steam temperature and pressure are too high, it increases the stress on the materials of the turbine, subjecting them to greater stresses and creating potential safety risks.
