I noticed that the spiral ladders on most of the storage tanks in our plant go upward in a counterclockwise direction. May I ask, what are the advantages of this? Is this a design requirement?
Is this related to the restriction on the pipe outlet? There seem to be no specific regulations; the main goal is to avoid collisions with pipes and connectors. It’s determined based on the actual situation on site, and there seems to be no difference between rotating clockwise or counterclockwise. We currently do it in a clockwise direction
Hehe, it’s mainly due to people’s *habit issues. There’s a railing on the right side, which makes people feel safer when climbing; you can think about it for yourself..
It’s determined by the process piping; as long as it doesn’t block the pipes, that’s fine. If everyone in your company is responsible for working on the storage tanks, then it might be the designer’s decision, as they will make some changes to the existing drawings. That’s why the ladders are all in one direction. If there are very few cases of inconsistency, then it’s likely the piping technicians who made the decision, probably because the ladders were blocking the pipe openings. That’s roughly what it means. There could also be other reasons.
Regarding this issue, I think it’s a common problem among designers; there’s no clear rule for it – as long as it doesn’t block the pipe opening, it’s fine~~~
Since people are accustomed to using the railing on the right side, they feel more nervous when descending into the lower storage tank compared to when going up into it; therefore, the spiral staircase is designed in the opposite direction so that people can hold onto the railing with their right hand while descending.
I agree with the first half of what was said on the 6th floor, but isn’t the second half backwards?
The second half of the sentence on the 6th floor is indeed reversed; descending to the lower storage tanks has a greater impact than ascending. Therefore, spiral ladders are usually arranged in a clockwise direction, and all the spiral ladders for the storage tanks in our warehouse facility are arranged clockwise
There are no specific regulations; it’s probably a design issue. In our unit, half use the forward direction and half use the reverse direction.
Actually, it’s just a design concept. There are more counterclockwise ones because there are more handrails on the right side. However, considering that there are many left-handed people in reality, if it is difficult to set it up, then the decision should be based on the manufacturing conditions; ease of operation is the greatest advantage, and this is also the purpose behind designing spiral stairs and platforms.
The direction of the spiral staircase is related to the pipelines. I’ve seen them in both directions; it’s not necessarily always in one direction.
