If a shell and tube design is used, how should the inner diameter specification of the shell and tube be specified? Is it = outer diameter of the heat tracing tube + outer diameter of the heat tracing tube? Should it be specified as one size larger than the outer diameter of the heat tracing tube? For example, on a DN150 pipe there are two DN20 steam tracing pipes; what should be the inner diameter of the insulation casing?
I think the size of the insulation casing can be determined entirely by oneself: choose the inner diameter of the casing according to your requirements. In your example, there are two DN20 pipes connected to a DN150 pipe, and all are in accordance with petrochemical standards. For a 159 pipe, the heating requirement is 25; therefore, the inner diameter of the insulation casing for one such pipe is 184, while for two pipes (installed at an angle of 30 degrees), the inner diameter of the insulation casing is 187

I remember there being a specification specifically on heat tracing and jacketed pipes; I can’t recall the details exactly, but I’ll check it tomorrow and let you know. The way I usually do it personally is as follows: outer diameter of the heat tracing tube + outer diameter of the heat tracing tube – single heat tracing ; For double heat tracing, it is the outer diameter of the heat tracing tube + outer diameter of the heat tracing tube x 2. I actually know that when using double insulation, the inner diameter of the tube shell is specified a bit larger, but in practice, more material still needs to be reserved as extra – it’s a way of being lazy. However, this applies only to heat tracing pipes of DN20 or less; for larger ones, calculations are required. Hehe……
For pipes with a diameter of DN65 or less, the size of the outer tube used for insulation and heating is two sizes larger; for example, DN40 pipes use DN65 outer tubes. For pipes with a diameter of DN80 or more, the size of the outer tube used for insulation and heating is one size larger; for example, DN80 pipes use DN100 outer tubes

For pipes with an outer diameter of 168.3, two DN20 pipes (with an outer diameter of 26.3) are used for heat tracing; if the insulation casing is made of rigid or semi-rigid material, the inner diameter should be 200, while if it is made of soft material, 168 will suffice.
