After reviewing some materials, I found that many translations use different terms for the two large valves in a steam turbine. Quick shut-off valve – also known as the main steam valve, main stop valve, main air cut-off valve, main throttle valve, or main shut-off valve; in English, it is called a MAIN STOP VALVE. Main steam control valve – also referred to as the main control valve; in English, it is called a CONTROL VALVE. I wonder if there are any other names for these valves; let’s share them and determine which one is the most standard.
The quick-shut valve is also known as TTV, which stands for trip and throttle valve in English. It’s hard to say which one is the most formal; actually, their meanings are all similar.
Different industries use different terms; in chemical plants, industrial steam turbines are generally referred to as quick-shut valves and control valves. As for other contexts, different names are used for steam turbines used in power generation in power plants

I have worked in power plants for nearly 20 years, and I call these two types of valves the main valve and the governor valve; that’s how I’ve always referred to them.

We call them quick-close valves, main steam control valves (or main regulating valves)
Actually, any of those names is fine; people in this industry generally understand them! Each factory has its own conventional terms of reference, and as long as they don’t cause confusion among everyone, that’s okay!
We refer to the quick-shut valve as an emergency valve, and the main steam control valve as a regulating valve; whatever name is used, it means the same thing – as long as everyone understands it.

The quick-shut valve is used in emergency situations, while the main steam valve is used during normal production start-up and shutdown operations.
