For the continuous distillation of methanol in a double-column system, it is possible to use a regular reactor as a reboiler; the key issue is whether the heating area of the reactor matches the heat load of the distillation columns
If steam pipes can be used directly at the bottom of the tower for heating, then it should work fine; there must be a reason behind using siphon heating
Of course, it’s possible, but it depends on whether the heat exchange area meets the requirements; additionally, the heat transfer coefficient should be lower than that of a thermosyphon reboiler. Using a reactor as a reboiler is essentially the same as using a kettle.
