Sinopec begins construction of Wuhan ethylene plant Sinopec Corp.'s Wuhan ethylene project with an annual output of 800,000 tons has begun construction. The factory is * * It is part of a plan to build large-scale ethylene production capacity in central and western China, aiming to meet the demand for petrochemical products in the central region. The plant is 65% owned by Sinopec and South Korea's largest refining company SK Energy Co. ( 096770.SE ) holds 35% of the shares. The factory will begin operations in 2011. In addition to 800,000 tons of ethylene, important chemicals produced at the project include 300,000 tons of high-density polyethylene, 300,000 tons of linear low-density polyethylene and 400,000 tons of polypropylene.
