Before the economic crisis, the chemical industry market across the country was booming; many design firms were overwhelmed with work and had to hire staff on an ad-hoc basis. Due to the varying skill levels of these newly hired employees, the quality of the designs could not be guaranteed. As a result, many projects had numerous errors during construction, requiring significant modifications that caused substantial financial losses to the clients. With the onset of the financial crisis, China’s chemical industry was also affected; many chemical plants stopped operating, and numerous projects that were planned were suspended or canceled. As a result, small and medium-sized design firms across the country were also impacted. Therefore, during this period, it would be advisable to suggest that the managers of these design firms change their approach, concentrate their most skilled staff on completing the existing projects, improve the quality of their designs, and strive to establish a solid foothold in the domestic chemical engineering design market.
