Is there a big difference between CCC compressor control and Tricon?
They are all used for compressor anti-surge control, each with its own advantages
Bigger, much bigger. Firstly, CCC is designed specifically for detecting and controlling compressor surge, with no other functions; it typically employs a redundant control approach, with units serving as backups for one another. Its controller appears very simple in design, resembling the old Type 3 electric meters, and it requires very little installation space. It involves the terminals for surge control; signals go directly to the controller through these terminals, and there are few sampling points: inlet flow rate (or differential pressure), temperature, inlet pressure, outlet pressure, output from the surge valve, and shutdown signal output. Surge prevention is different from other methods, and it is more complex than TRICON control approaches. TRICON can perform many functions. It features powerful functions such as anti-surge control, interlock control, PID control, and SIS. In larger systems, signal input cards are used, with the CPU taking charge of implementing various functions. It requires significant space for installation; all control points related to the unit are integrated into the TRICON system, which enables functions such as interlocking, PID control, anti-surge protection, and emergency shutdown. In short, CCC is dedicated to anti-surge control, while TRICON handles all the control functions of the unit.
The biggest difference is that one has SIL3 while the other doesn’t; if this isn’t a concern, then technically both options will meet the requirements: hug:

3C is still quite specialized; it is used for engine control, such as surge control, bleed air control, and performance control. Tricon can be used for SIS as well as for unit control, but it is not as specialized for unit control as CCC; I have used both of these systems. As for SIL3 being the safety level of a SIS system, unit control is not a SIS, so certification is not required.
It is said that CCC was the pioneer in surge control, with TRICON and ICS both learning from it.
TRICON didn’t study 3C! Because it’s simply not possible for it to steal 3C technologies; saying it can learn from 3C technologies is really giving it too much credit
