What factors affect the flow loss in pipes? Is there any information available on this topic?

Loss of flow in the pipeline? Hehe... I’ve only heard of pressure drop loss; I’ve never heard of flow loss. Did the original poster make a mistake? Or was a drain valve not closed properly along the way? If, according to material balance, there is no output, how can there be a loss? It’s not energy, unless it leaks along the way.
