In our facility, the light oil pumps used for handling oils are prone to cavitation during summer operations; could this be related to the excessive number of bends in the inlet and outlet pipelines?
There should be no major problems with too many exit elbows, but an excessive number of inlet elbows increases the frictional losses, thereby reducing the net positive suction head available in the system. As temperatures rise in summer, the vaporization pressure of the fluid also increases; if the inlet pressure is already close to this vaporization pressure, cavitation is likely to occur.
Cavitation is only related to the inlet pipeline. And it has nothing to do with exports
Elbows mainly increase the resistance in the piping, thereby reducing the performance of the pump; they are generally not related to cavitation. Light oil grades can cause cavitation, and you might consider addressing the issue from a process perspective – modifying the equipment would be too costly

This indicates that the level of cavitation in the pump is quite close to the cavitation margin of the pipeline, and it is related to the excessive number of bends in the inlet pipeline.
