Some organic acids are generated during the reaction process, and additional organic acids are formed as a result of air leaking into the tower at high temperatures during negative-pressure distillation. I would like to ask how these organic acids can be effectively removed from the distillation tower? ? Could everyone please explain the general process conditions and possible solutions? An idea: organic acids are processed in the tower by adding water, achieving azeotropy, followed by separation to isolate the organic acids
Aqueous solutions of organic acids are difficult to remove, especially those with low concentrations. Currently, extraction is commonly used for organic acids with concentrations below 5%, while azeotropic distillation and extractive distillation are more frequently employed for aqueous solutions of organic acids with medium to high concentrations. It is recommended to consult some literature on the subject.

I think the organic compound you want to distill must be an organic compound, and the organic acids contained within it are indeed difficult to separate. Theoretically, extraction methods can be used to achieve this goal, but in practice it is hard to do so due to the difficulty in finding a suitable extractant. I believe that neutralizing with a dilute alkali followed by oil-water separation yields better results. You might as well give it a try in the lab.

I’m sorry; I didn’t explain it clearly. Over 95% of what’s in the tower is phenol, and it contains organic acids for various reasons. To remove these organic acids from the phenol while ensuring that the lower components in the tower consist of over 99% pure phenol, how can this be achieved?
