What is the principle behind desulfurization of softened water?

While reviewing a catalytic process today, I noticed that a soft water washing tank has been added in front of the second-stage compressor, with its outlet connected to the outlet of the first-stage compressor. After studying the process, it seems that the goal is to remove sulfur from the liquid phase, but I’m not aware of the principle behind it. I hope Haiyou can help solve this! Thank you! :)
