How should the organizational structure of a small chemical engineering design firm be designed? Is it necessary to set up a chief engineer?
It depends on the size of your company and the staffing arrangement. In ordinary small design firms, sometimes the head of a specialized department also serves as the chief engineer, so there is no need to appoint another chief engineer. Head of the specialized department: Generally focuses on the day-to-day management within that specialty. Chief Engineer: More focused on technology. Of course, it depends on your company’s staff; if they are relatively well-off, it’s better to have such arrangements in place
As a legitimate design institute, I believe it is still necessary to have a chief engineer. The room director focuses on management, while the chief engineer emphasizes technical aspects; the division of responsibilities is clear. If there is another deputy director and the company is not large, it is more appropriate for the chief engineer to be held by the deputy director.
