Since leaving school, I have been working in technology for over a decade; last year I worked in business for a year, and it felt pretty good. But right after the Spring Festival, I wanted to partner with a friend to start a small business, but the partnership failed and I was unable to return to my previous company. I thought that even if I failed, I still had to get back on my feet, so I tried to find a company where I could work as a salesperson. But after applying to many companies, they kept rejecting me because of my age, insisting that I take on technical or managerial roles; in other words, I faced rejection everywhere. It seems that starting to do something as a beginner does present certain difficulties! Fortunately, there was a company yesterday that was willing to hire me; it offered a base salary plus commissions, though the base salary was quite low. But never mind that – at least there’s a chance to prove myself and give it a try.

Working in technology isn’t that great, then why change careers? After having over a decade of experience in this field, are you just going to give it up like that?
After all, living is a complicated task; when there are choices, one should choose the better ones, and when there are no choices, one has to settle for what’s available. Don’t be too picky, otherwise you’ll lose a lot.

I think working in technology is great – the more experience you gain, the more valuable you become! If you really enjoy working in business, then give yourself a chance to give it a try. It’s great if it succeeds; if not, you can adjust your approach and return to a technical role, which is also a good option.
