Now, much of the coke oven gas is used to produce methanol. Are there any risks associated with using coke oven gas for methanol production? What are the main risks?
I looked up some information online and found that the main reason is the shrinkage of the market. Currently, there is an overcapacity issue, as well as competition from foreign countries where natural gas is abundant; the cost of imported natural gas is around 1,000 yuan per ton. The main production areas in China are in the northwest, while the market is located in the south, which creates difficulties in transportation and leads to rising transport costs, thereby reducing competitiveness. Some large methanol production projects also have relatively low costs, giving them an advantage over those that produce methanol using coke oven gas. What other risks exist besides these?
