Since it is necessary to limit the gas supply volume to downstream customers, control valves are planned to be used for this purpose. Normally, the customer draws air at a normal rate and the valve is fully open; as the amount of air drawn by the customer increases, the degree of opening of the valve decreases, in order to prevent the amount of air drawn from exceeding the level specified in the contract. In such cases, linear control valves or equal percentage control valves are available as options – which one is better? Reason? In my opinion, when downstream customers supply normal pressure, the valves should be fully open. When the air supply flow rate reaches the set value, the valve operates, primarily for regulation at high opening degrees; a linear valve is a better choice. However, restricting flow rate often requires pressure control to achieve the goal. Since the pipelines of downstream customers have large capacities and high inertia, significant valve action is needed for intervention; in such cases, utilizing the characteristic of rapid operation at full opening with equal percentage control can also achieve the desired result. Whether it is necessary to meet the gas supply pressure required by downstream customers – based on what you said, it’s not necessary; it’s sufficient to just control the gas supply volume so that it does not exceed the amount specified in the contract, right? Then just use a flow control valve; don’t use a pressure control valve.
