Calculations regarding the quality of thin steel plates

Yesterday I looked at someone else’s drawings; they dealt with the quality of gaskets and flat steel. I calculated it using the formula volume * 7.85 * 1000, but my result was different from what was shown in the drawings. I heard that for each material type, there is a specific thickness associated with a particular weight, and this information can be found without having to do the calculations oneself. Is that correct? If it can be found, in which book should I look?
