May I ask, can the fire pump room (shared with the circulation water pump room) and the refrigeration plant (mainly using ammonia) be classified as Class B industrial buildings? ) What is the fire separation distance between them? Which standard and which clause should be referred to?
In my opinion, for refrigeration rooms (mainly using ammonia; they should be classified as Class B buildings), the fire separation distances between such rooms should be determined with reference to Article 3.4.1 of the Building Code (applicable to medium and small chemical enterprises): For single-story (or multi-story) Class B buildings that require a fire resistance rating of at least Grade 2, the fire separation distance from other buildings with a fire resistance rating of at least Grade 1 or 2 should be no less than 10 meters.
It depends on the actual situation. The chiller room is definitely classified as a Class B building. The distance between a Class B building and a fire pump room (treated as a Class A or B building for now) should be 10 meters. However, if the wall separating the two buildings is a fire wall, or if their doors and windows are positioned in such a way as to avoid direct contact, the required fire separation distance can be reduced
If the distance is only 8m, is it okay to use a firewall as a separation? Are there any standards to follow?
Note 3 to 3.4.1 of the “Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings” (2006): When the outer wall on the higher side of two adjacent factories serves as a fire wall, there is no limit on the required fire separation distance; however, this distance should be no less than 4 meters between factories of Class A……
