I encountered such a problem during maintenance: a gasket needed to be replaced at one of the flanges. The medium in question is weakly acidic water, which is somewhat corrosive. The original gasket was a PTFE metal-wound gasket, but due to tight deadlines, such gaskets are not available at the moment. I plan to use a flexible graphite metal-wound gasket as a substitute. Will that work?
LZ’s approach is feasible; flexible graphite metal wound gaskets can be used as a temporary substitute. However, it is recommended that you purchase polytetrafluoroethylene metal wound gaskets and replace them in a timely manner, as over time, flexible graphite metal wound gaskets may cause leaks if the force applied when tightening the bolts is not appropriate during installation.
